Nobita, the model agent, also my partner in crime. Ever.

What will you get when combine photographer who cannot distinguish dress and skirt with a fashion photoshot? Disaster.

Everything seemed simple in my imagination turned into something complicated when it talk about wardrobe. What dress the model should wearing. I even don’t have any idea what “the dress” is. It is something white and silky? Or red and cotton?

I think it would be okay if I combine a red tank top and blue jeans. But friend of mine told me that combination will not fit with the message of WRP photo product. It should be show the Curve of the model’s body. Then he suggested me to use a simple white short sleveless dress (Do you get what I mean? Is that correct fashion terminology?). It should be silky so we’d get that Curve (or in my friend’s term: “the line”).

So what’s the lesson I got from this first my fashion photoshot?

1. I have to make everything clear in my head. Concept. Treatment. Wardrobe. Model. Reff pose. Background. Everything. So, there are no more doubt while I am pressing the shutter button.

2. If I wanna do a fashion photoshot, I need to learn something about fashion. Then I supposed to be fall in love with fashion. How could you photograph something you don’t even like it? The result would be terrible, I guess.

3. Be brave. As you know, I am not a fashionable person. There are many people outta there whom are the one. I don’t have any dress. They do. I don’t have any high heels. They do. All I need is talk to them and ask their help.

4. If you still dunno what to do with fashion, maybe this is not your destiny. Simply check your background and ask yourself what kind of photography fit to you? Do you like photograph people, or flower or your pets? Be honest to your self.

5. Photoshot, as many aspect of your life, should be done with so much fun! If it’s not, then leave it.

The last assignment after the exhibition were making a single commercial photo of WRP Product, ten retail photos (still related to commercial fashion photography), three photos using hard, med, low key techniques, and three photos made by hard, soft, and diffused light. That’s all.

Oh no! Actually, it’s not that all. There were still more homework from Kristupa Saragih about landscape and architectural photography. But I decided to abandon them. First, just because I am soooooo lazy to wake up early morning. Second, the deadline has passed over. Yeah, my bad.

Now, I am still working on treatment of that first assignment. I think it should be a simple photoshoot. You know, with natural available light named sunshine without artificial lighting. Except the wardrobe which make me confused. I even don’t care about what I am wearing right now. How I supposed to do a fashion photoshoot? Weird.

But still, it is my first commercial photoshoot. Even it’s only trial and learning. And this is totally not within my comfort zone. So, as my life goes to 2.3 version now, I need to make this happen. I am gonna make it happen. Soon, I will post the photo result here.***

Kadang-kadang aku suka iseng mikir gini: baik buruknya sepanjang tahun ditandai oleh peristiwa-peristiwa di awal tahun tersebut. Aku sendiri tidak ingat persis peristiwa apa yang menandai tahun 2009. Mungkin itu sebabnya tahun itu jadi terasa biasa-biasa saja.

Tapi tahun ini? Sepertinya bakal berbeda. Email ini adalah penanda pertama. ;D

Dan beginilah penampakan jam tangan anak-anak itu.

Aku mendapatkan jam tangan ini pada pertengahan Desember kemaren. Dengan tidak sabar membuka kemasan kertasnya yang tersegel rapat, aku sendiri heran dengan reaksi pertama ketika mendapati jam tangan itu: “Oke, baiklah”.

Pertama, jam tangan itu kelihatan begitu rapuh. Bagian penutup baterai di belakangnya terbuat dari plastik. Mungkin supaya tahan karat, supaya lebih ringan, atau lebih murah. Aku cenderung setuju pada kemungkinan nomer tiga. Engselnya pun aku tidak terlalu yakin, benar-benar terbuat dari besi atau dari plastik juga.

Kedua, jam tangan itu sampai dalam keadaan mati. Begitu aku mengguncang-guncangkannya, berharap agar jarum detiknya bergerak, jarum itu memang bergerak. Tapi bukan gerakan normal seperti jarum detik pada umumnya. Benda itu bergerak seolah hendak rontok dari porosnya.

Belakangan ketahuan bahwa jam tangan itu hanya “pura-pura” mati setelah seseorang melepaskan pengait plastik yang menahan pengatur jarumnya. Voila! Jam tangan itu ternyata berfungsi. Tapi aku masih belum yakin.

Aku memakaikannya di tangan kiriku. Bagaimana pun itu terlihat seperti jam anak-anak. Boleh jadi tidak akan muat di pergelangan tanganku. Lagi-lagi aku keliru. Muat, bahkan hampir longgar. Tetapi kemudian aku mendengar bunyi seolah-olah ada yang patah entah di bagian mana dari benda itu. Setelah aku amat-amati lagi pengaitnya yang terbuat dari plastik berwarna hitam, aku tidak heran.

Kesimpulannya, jam tangan ini hanya tepat untuk koleksi. Kalau aku jadi anak-anak, dengan senang hati aku akan memakainya kemana-mana. Memamerkannya pada setiap orang yang aku temui. Tak peduli jam tangan itu mungkin akan rusak dalam waktu beberapa hari.

Sekali ini aku memutuskan untuk bersikap sesuai dengan usiaku. Apalagi mengingat bagaimana pengorbanan yang aku lakukan untuk mendapatkannya. Suatu saat nanti, jam tangan ini akan jadi penanda bahwa di tahun 2009, aku pernah sangat menginginkan sesuatu tapi tidak mendapatkannya. Jam tangan ini merefleksikan tahun itu dengan sempurna.***
